One Month

Our tiny little man is now one month old. Already!
He has fit right into the family though and it feels like he has been with us all along. :)
He is not so tiny anymore either, he weighed in at 8 lbs 13 oz, and is 21 inches long. It is so neat to look at him and see how much he has grown. His cheeks are bigger, his belly is rounder, he has dimples in his elbows, and he is getting creases in his thighs. He is growing out of clothes, but mostly in length.
He loves looking around and seeing all there is to see, it is neat to see how he is now able to focus and track with an object.
He is a strong little guy, when he is on his tummy he can get his shoulders and chest off the floor and turns his head with no trouble at all. He also is very eager to stand and pushes off with his legs when he gets his feet planted on my stomach.
He is a great little baby, he sleeps well at night, and he likes to eat. During the day he sleeps in the bassinet in the middle of the family room and sleeps through all the noise. He also likes to snuggle in the carrier and sleep in there if we are off on a walk or while I am getting a few things done.
Marin and Corban give him loads of love and he gets kisses from them all the time. Corban especially likes to help changes diapers.
Jeriah is starting to watch his big sister and brother more closely and it is so cute when they are face to face looking at each other. I am looking forward to seeing how they will interact as Jeriah gets older.
We love our little boy, he is such a sweet little man, and cute too!

Here are some more pictures from this past week. Enjoy his cuteness. :)

Lets talk about the weather.

So apparently the little bit a rain we got the other day was just a small sample of what was to come.
On Tuesday night Ian had gone into Jeddah to do some shopping, on his way home in the distance he could see lighting. When he got home he told me and we both stepped out onto the patio and watched lightning flashing in the clouds above Thuwal, no thunder though.

Then yesterday morning I woke up to the sound of rain pitter-pattering against our bedroom window, and thunder. It was raining, and windy, and there was water everywhere! It was a full on storm! At first I just lay in bed, Jeriah sleeping beside me enjoying the sounds and the cozy feeling. Then I got worried, knowing the less than perfect job that was done on the construction of the houses I became concerned about the water staying on the outside of the house. I could hear the water gushing down the down-spout of the gutters and after listening to that for a couple minuets, the worrying got the better of me and I hopped out of bed and sure enough water was pouring in around the light fixture in the upstairs storage room. Ian quickly got some buckets to catch the water, and then walked around the house looking for more water. There were a few windows that had very minor leaks and water was coming underneath one of the upstairs patio doors, but not badly.
We fared better then some of the other KAUSTys though. Many people had way more water in their houses. Some had it pouring in from the ceiling, some had in flowing in from under the doors and still others had both.
Everything was shut down for the day, schools were closed and people were advised to stay home. There are no drains on the roads so there was nowhere for the majority of the water to go. Pumper trucks were brought in to remove it and crews were out working to clean up damage and help move people whose homes were worst hit, to dry conditions.
We snapped a few pictures out the windows of our house.

Many other fellow KAUSTy bloggers have also posted their experience with this crazy weather we experienced if you want to see more check out.
Belky and family went out to check things out, the even went to Jeddah!
You can also see more here and here.
Joyce's husband also posted this on YouTube very appropriately titled "November Rain". Ha ha!

Who knew we would be seeing weather like this while we are living in a desert!?

It Rained!

Yesterday morning when I looked out the bedroom window I noticed that there were clouds in the sky.
Then about half hour later it rained! Corban, Jeriah and I went out and stood in it. :)
This is actually the second time it has rained since we have arrived here. This first time was when we were still at the hotel, but it didn't rain as much and we didn't actually get to see it, we just heard from others that it had rained. Yesterday mornings rain lasted less then 5 minutes. The rain drops were big and warm, and it even made that pitter-patter sound on the side of the pool. That brought a smile to my face. :) I haven't seen rain or heard that familiar pitter-patter sound in over 3 1/2 months! I know that back home at the coast they are experiencing a LOT of rain right now. I miss it though...
My Facebook status this morning was a comment about the rain, Jay was surprised to hear that we got rain here. According to the Weather Network Jeddah gets 54 mm of precipitation on average per year, Vancouver gets 1117 mm. So yes we do get rain here, just a LOT less.

While I am here posting I have a few other things to share, mainly pictures...
Over the weekend the 5 of us went to check out the newly opened public library, we read a few books, and checked out a couple movies and a few books for the kids. Then we went for a walk along the sea wall in front of KAUST. In the afternoon, while the boys were napping, and I was enjoying the silence, Ian and Marin went to the Harbor rec center and went bowling.
On Friday (our Sunday) there was a "Family Fun night" and Marin and Corban enjoyed the bouncy castles. Jeriah spent the whole time asleep strapped to me in the carrier.

Yesterday Jeriah also wore shorts for the first time, figures the day it rains. Ha ha!
Seeing his little knees in them was pretty cute. :)

Cuteness from yesterday.*

Check out his big blue eyes.
And what his hair decided to do.
Then it was time for a little nap.
And his big brother came by to check on things.
(See the blur in the background)
He kept sleeping though.
But gave a little smirk.
He is such cuteness!

And because baby wiggles and sounds are so cute here he is checking out his baby gym.

Our Little Comics

Marin has been making up knock-knock jokes a lot lately, they usually go something like this:
"knock-knock" "whose there?" obviously. Then she names some random object. We reply with the correct response. Then she replies with "insert random object dressed in insert another random object". We play a long and laugh at her jokes, Corban sees this and wanting to be part of the fun has come up with his own "knock-knock" jokes. I think it is pretty cute.

2 weeks old. Already!?

Our tiny man is 2 weeks old today, the days are passing far to quickly!
Even though our little guy is still small I am sure you can tell from these pictures that his cheeks are looking fuller and rounder. :)
He is a peaceful little guy and he only fusses when he is ready to eat. Right now he is still content to sleep though all the noise that his big sister and brother make. We have his bassinet in the family room so he is always close by. He has been sleeping well at night, to be honest I am not really keeping track of how often he is waking, but I do know that I don't really find it that disruptive. He eats and then falls right back asleep, and so do I, well I don't eat, but I fall right back asleep. :)
He has been enjoying his baths, but what he seems to like best is after the bath when we use the blow dyer on the low setting to dry him off. He is like a little puppy in the wind, he puts his face towards the dyer and his hair flies in the breeze, it is cute to watch.
It is so neat to see the little changes in him from the past 2 weeks, and to anticipate the changes to come. At the same time though I kind of wish he could stay our little baby.
I also just want to share these 2 pictures from the other day. This is one of the ways Jeriah likes to nap.
You got to love the little bum in the air.
Also to show you that Jeriah doesn't always sleep here is a little video of him from this evening.

Who needs a cat.

This morning Ian and I had a good laugh as Corban discovered the "laser bug". He had so much fun chasing it around, and working on his bug hunting skills.

Watching him chase the red dot around reminded us of when we used let the cat play with the laser pointer, don't worry though we wont put tape on the bottom of Corban's feet to see how he reacts. :)

Sibling Snuggles

We have 3 kids now. Three!
So far it is going well, but I think that is because Jeriah, only eats, sleeps, fills diapers and stays where we put him. Ian and I are out numbered now, time will tell how things go, eeek!
Many of you have asked how Marin and Corban have been with their new little brother. They are doing great!
Marin announces many times daily "I love my baby brother!" and she always gets a big grin on her face when she holds Jeriah.
She has been helpful, getting things that we need for Jeriah, and making sure the music is on for him on his swing (this is important to her).
Corban is a very attentive big brother. He loads on the kisses
and hugs.
He is very interested in what is happening with Jeriah and he likes to help.
Every time Jeriah starts to fuss Corban comes to check on him, calling to me "beby, beby". He also wants to share with Jeriah offering him his cookies, pizza, spaghetti, and juice. It is very sweet.
My goodness they are cute!

Our Precious Peanut

Jeriah Ross.
He is here and we are so in love with him. He is perfect.
He is now nine days old and even though he is still tiny he is growing, his cheeks look bigger to me every day and I am having to do his diaper up looser too. He had a doctors visit at 5 days old (which was Nov 1st, his due date) and he weighed in at 6lbs then. He eats like a pro and lets me sleep at night too, not all night, but I am feeling rested enough so it is all good.
I have a load of pictures to share. I have been wanting to post for days now, but I have 3 little people to spend time with now and Ian too of course so blogging has not fit in as much.
In this set of 5 pictures he is 2 days old.
Here he is 3 days old ready to come home. Can you see him peeking out from behind the buckles?
4 days old and having his first bath at home.
6 days old and having a swing by the patio door in the nice sunlight.
This morning, 9 days old, having a snooze on Daddy's lap at breakfast
and then again later in the morning on my lap after filling his belly with milk.
then waking up to have a look around.
Some of you have asked who I think Jeriah looks like, or have commented as to who you think he looks like. I don't look at him and think "oh he looks just like so and so" I see Jeriah.
Looking back at pictures of Marin and Corban when they were brand new I see similarities in the mouth and chin area of all 3 of them. Time will tell though as he changes and grows.
Jeriah's hair is different from Marin and Corban's, he has less hair and it is lighter in color and so far it is not sticking up as much as theirs did. You may have noticed as well in all his pictures that his hair is going from (his) left to right across his forehead, it is doing that all on its own. He gets that from Ian.
Jeriah seems to have a mellow personality. He is very patient and content when he is on his tummy, and works well at getting his little head up and turned to the other side. Marin and Corban both were not fans of tummy time. He gets a very concerned, concentrated look on his face when he is studying his new world around him, it is fun to watch him take it all in.
It will be neat to watch and be a part of how he changes and learns and to see who he becomes. Right now though I don't want to hurry things along, I am enjoying the new tiny totally cute little bundle that he is. :)
