Today our boy is 16 months old.
For this occasion I am going to make a list of 16 things about him.
1. He continues to be a totally cuddly, lovey little guy. Every morning he comes into bed with us and snuggles for a bit before we get up for the day. He goes back and forth between Ian and I giving us big hugs. When I am in the kitchen making a meal and he and Marin are playing in the living room he will come into the kitchen and put his arms out for a hug. I bend down to get my hug and he runs over and throws his arms around my neck, I give him a kiss and then he is off again to play.
2. He has been interested in puzzles (the wooden board ones like this) the last little while and he is pretty good at them. The ones he likes are all animals and he is very good at matching them.
3. Every morning when Ian leaves for work Corban stands at the door and waves bye bye. It is so cute the way he does it, he extends his arm all the way and waves his hand and say "bahh, bahh!" Then once I close the door he watches out the window beside the door.
4. He and Marin love to play together in his crib, they like it when I load a bunch of stuffys in there with them. Marin will ask to play in his bed, and so, as soon as he sees her in there he runs to me with his arms up indicating that he wants in too.
5. At bath time he loves playing with the running water coming out of the tap. He also thinks it is pretty funny to pour water on Marin's head with the cup, to keep things fair he pours it on himself too though.
6. He says "cheese" for the camera with a totally scrunched up cheesy grin face.
7. He is really good at communicating what he wants without words. He has made up quite a few of own signs, and he totally understands when we give him options and will point to the one he wants.
8. When we are walking outside he always has to have at least one rock or stick in one of his hands. It is the first thing he looks for when he gets outside. As we walk along he is continually finding more and gives all the extras to me.
9.He and Marin now share a bedroom, they have for about 6 weeks now. At bedtime after teeth have been brushed Marin sits in her bed (a toddler bed so it is low to the ground) and Ian and I sit beside it. Corban sits on one of our laps and the other reads the bedtime story, then we pray and sing a couple songs. Once the last song is sung (usually "Jesus love me") Corban stands up and throws his arms around Marin and gives her a hug, Marin of course hugs back. Then he comes to me for a big hug and I tuck him into bed.
10. His vocabulary is growing, he now says "book" (and if he is really excited about reading a book he says "booka booka") ,"ball", "pup"(dog), "gaff"(giraffe), "el"(elephant), "bahbah"(bottle), "blloock"(block), "juces"(juice), and "bug". As well he snorts like a pig and says"cak" (quack), "moo", and "ba" when asked what sounds those animals make.
11. He likes to build his own towers, he will use whatever is around, blocks, stacking cups, mega blocks. He also likes to stack his plate, bowl and cup at the dinner table.
12. He likes to sit and look at books on his own, he likes to crawl up on Marin's bed and flip through the pages. He continues to like to be read to as well.
13. He is very helpful when it is clean up time. As soon as he sees me putting something into a container he comes along and starts picking things up too.
14. He has really begun the whole "monkey see monkey do", the other day Marin had stacked all the couch pillows onto a stack on the floor, she stepped back a ways and ran towards it and belly flopped onto them. Corban immediately copied her, then each time she would straighten the pillows to do it again he would beat her to the belly flop, he thought it was totally awesome.
15. He is still totally into brushing teeth. Although he hates it when we brush his teeth, he wants to hold the brush himself. He screams blue murder, while we pin him down and brush his teeth, and as soon as we stop and the brush is in his hand he is silent and everything is dandy again.
16. He has many little nick-names or pet names Marin calls him, "Corby-Corby", Ian calls him "C-dawg", I call him "my little Corban Barry", "Tiny man" and "snuggle bug" and "lovey boy" (because he is so snuggley). He also gets called "CB" by his Grandpa and "Corbanator" by his Opa.
